Saleyard Operators Australia (SOA) is the official trading name of Saleyard Operators Association of NSW Inc, which was established in 1981 at a meeting in Dubbo NSW. The purpose of the Association is to look after the interest and well being of its members, the livestock saleyards owners and operators, to ensure their clients have an up-to-date marketing service that meets the challenges of the industry.

The Saleyard Operators Association of NSW Inc progressed in its activities and growth to eventually employ a Chief Executive Officer in 1997. Since then it has continued in its growth and now has members across Australia. Within this field SOA is the peek industry body in Australia, having the largest number of active members, the owners and operators of saleyards across Australia.

SOA actively represents its members at all levels of the livestock industry as well as local, state and Australian government bodies. SOA seeks to ensure the appropriate operational procedures are maintained at all times - for example, SOA has developed the current Australian Code of Practice (available on this site) plus implementing with members the current OH&S policies. It continues to research new innovative ideas in marketing, the improvement of design and hence presentation of livestock, through to the implementation of the National Livestock Identification Scheme.
